Embodied Recovery: Dedicated Somatic Parts Work for Texas Clients
You’re ready for a new approach to therapy.
Traditional talk therapy can help you understand your relational patterns intellectually, but your body may still react with physical tension, anxiety, or protective shutting down. At Sage & Shadows Counseling, Internal Family Systems therapy integrates gentle parts work with somatic grounding to help your nervous system feel safe again. Whether you are seeking support locally in Corpus Christi, online in San Antonio, or anywhere in the state of Texas, this approach moves beyond coping to support deep, embodied healing.
IFS THERAPY CAN HELP YOU RECONNECT WITH YOUR TRUE SELF.
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is based on the idea that we all have different “parts” within us that influence how we think, feel, and respond to the world. You may have a part that overthinks, avoids conflict, people-pleases, shuts down emotionally, or becomes highly critical of yourself. In IFS, these parts are not seen as bad or broken. They are understood as protective responses that developed to help you survive difficult experiences. Therapy focuses on helping you identify and understand these parts with curiosity instead of judgment, while strengthening connection to your “Self,” the calm, compassionate, grounded core within you. Over time, these parts begin to feel safer, less extreme, and more balanced so they can work together rather than against each other.
-
IFS therapy is a collaborative and reflective process that moves at a pace that feels safe for you. Sessions may involve talking through emotions, exploring patterns in relationships, noticing body sensations, or identifying the different parts of yourself that show up in stressful situations. Instead of trying to “fix” or get rid of emotions, I help you understand why those reactions exist and what they may be protecting. Some sessions may feel grounding and insightful, while others may bring up deeper emotions connected to past experiences or unresolved wounds. Throughout the process, the focus stays on helping you feel more connected to yourself, more emotionally aware, and less overwhelmed by the patterns that have been keeping you stuck.
-
IFS can help you better understand yourself and the patterns that keep showing up in your life and relationships. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in anxiety, emotional overwhelm, perfectionism, self-criticism, people-pleasing, shutdown, or difficulty trusting themselves. IFS helps uncover the protective parts underneath those patterns and the deeper emotions or experiences they may be carrying. As healing happens, people often begin to feel more grounded, compassionate toward themselves, and more secure in their relationships. Rather than seeing yourself as “too much” or “broken,” IFS helps you understand that your reactions developed for a reason, and that healing comes from understanding those parts instead of fighting them.

IFS therapy integrates parts work with body-based healing. It supports not only insight, but felt change in the nervous system. Rather than asking you to think your way out of distress, IFS invites every part of you to be heard, felt, and gently integrated.
This approach is especially supportive for trauma survivors seeking deeper, embodied healing.
-
Trauma often fragments the nervous system, leaving parts stuck in survival. You may feel anxious, shut down, reactive, or overwhelmed without knowing why.
IFS therapy helps you meet those protective parts with compassion while restoring a felt sense of safety in the body. Over time, emotional reactivity softens and resilience grows.
-
No. Many people begin this work feeling disconnected from their bodies. There is no pressure to do it “right.”
We move at a pace your system can tolerate, building awareness and trust slowly. IFS meets you exactly where you are.
I often recommend beginning with weekly sessions to establish safety and momentum. As your system settles, we can explore spacing sessions based on what feels supportive.
